Techint E&C was awarded the mechanical works contract for one of the country’s most important combined cycle power plant.
On August 24th 2015 top management from Techint E&C, from the customer, the Egyptian Electricity Holding Company (EEHC) and its affiliated company, the East Delta Electricity Production Company (EDEPC), signed a contract for the engineering, procurement, installation, commissioning of the mechanical balance of plant for Al Shabab combined cycle power station at Ismailia, Egypt.
To respond to Egypt’s increasing need for power, the existing Al Shabab Power Plant, consisting of two power modules of 500 MW each, will be converted from simple to combined cycle, raising the plant’s production capacity by 500 MW, from 1,000 MW to 1,500 MW. The plant will be able to produce one half more of the generated electricity without the use of additional fuel.
The financing agency for the project is the European Investment Bank - EIB – together with other International and Arabian entities.
Construction activities are expected to start in Spring 2016.
